As the capital of the Campania region of Italy, the city of Naples is large, and urban, and bustling with commerce. But it is also a serene place full of beautiful scenery and old-world charm.
A week (or two) in Naples will fly by as you soak it all in. Whether your passion is opera, hiking, eating, or just experiencing a new culture, Naples has something for everyone.
A Trip Across Naples, Italy, Neapolitan Style
If you arrive by boat in the Gulf of Naples, one of the first sights you will see is the dense city reflected upon the beautiful Mediterranean waters, with Mount Vesuvius towering in the background.
Immediately you know, you are somewhere special.

Naples is the capital of the Campania region of Italy. It is rich in romance, history, nature, beauty…and, of course, food.
Like many Italian cities, it is full of historic architecture that makes you feel like you are in an ancient world. A great place to start your journey through the Neapolitan culture is getting lost in the city, finding hidden gems, and discovering real life there.

Inside the city
The archeological and architectural history just inside Naples alone is so incredibly captivating. Start by exploring the San Gennaro Catacombs.
Touring the many layers of this underground burial site is both eerie and breathtaking. The ancient carvings and intricate details are a fascinating part of history.
Another great tour is the Castel Nuovo. It dates to 1282, and its colossal towers are not something to miss. Dripping with art and history on the inside and an unforgettable view from up top, it is a main historical site in Italy.
Exploring the outside natural wonders wouldn’t be complete without visiting Mt. Vesuvius.
This active volcano is famous for its destruction and burial of Pompeii. You can access the top of the crater by a guided drive most of the way. From there, it is a short hike up to the edge of the crater. Once you’ve arrived, you will find a breathtaking view of the bay and the city, while you envision what this destructive volcano was once capable of.
Also, be sure to visit the excavated ruins of Pompeii and experience the rubble as if you are an archaeologist.

Another beautiful place in Naples is The Island of Capri. This luxurious island is in the Gulf of Naples and is famous for the Blue Grotto sea cave.

Eat Amazing Food!
Of course, we can’t forget the food! Our restaurant is, after all, based on the traditional foods of the Campania region of Naples, Italy! While visiting Naples don’t forget these 3 staples:
- Pizza – we’ve talked about Pizza Margherita before – Naples is the birthplace of the Neapolitan Pizza Margherita and it won’t be hard to find here. Eat your heart out!
- Sfogliatelle – a traditional treat with thin layers of buttery pastry dough stacked together then baked and filled with a ricotta filling.
- Coffee – This also won’t be hard to find. Italians are credited with the invention of the espresso machine and the rich beverages we know today like cappuccinos and lattes – don’t skimp on these goodies while in Italy – it just won’t be the same when you get home.
